Chris has farmed the prairie land his grandmother found as a home after fleeing Russia almost 100 years ago. His daughter Riley is learning more about the First Nations people who were on that land before her Oma arrived, and the jarring connections she has to their fate. Chris and Riley navigate their changing relationship to each other, the land they love and stories they tell – and to their neighbours who’ve lived here since time immemorial.

Historical documents, absurd situations, and extended metaphors accompany Riley and Chris’s journey. They – and the audience – unearth how the Doctrine of Discovery (the colonial legislation that justified theft of land) is still influencing our world today.

We’ll offer public performances of We Own This Now in community centres and church halls, touring central Saskatchewan.
