We're thrilled to reveal our 2026-2027 Season, in which we'll continue we continue our commitment to telling beautiful stories that invite connection across our differences and visceral passion for hopeful change. We're producing one Saskatchewan Premiere, one Canadian Premiere by an emerging artist, and one new Canadian play's World Premiere (also by an emerging artist).
As Burnt Thicket's artistic director Stephen Waldschmidt said during our Fireside Season Announcement Party last night:
"All three of these plays feature characters in significant life transitions, facing a world of injustice – young people emerging into adulthood, a comfortable ignorance replaced by invigorating truth, a powerless isolation restored with agency and belonging, and the discovery of mystical love rather than meaningless death....

In a tiny concrete room a women’s prison nurse gives palliative care to a spirited inmate with cancer and a life sentence. Both have lived with the trauma of rejection; now the inmate’s soulful songs and demands to be known expose wounds which this non-binary nurse buried years ago.
Past and present collide as the two wrestle with questions of belonging, death, and grace – but what will they find in each other?
Audience Advisory: This production is not intended for young audiences, although teens are welcome to attend at the discretion of their parents or guardian. Contains coarse language, mature themes including discussions of violence, religious trauma, gender-based discrimination and racism. Recommended for ages 16+.
